The title Erdoorheen [ˌɛɹdoʊɹˈheɪn] consists of a Dutch proniminal adverb expressing movement through something. The piece Erdoorheen deals with the passage from one sound universe to another. The passage can be violent and abrupt or it can be smooth and gradual, depending on the nature of the connected sound spaces and whether or not these permeate eachother. Ultimately, it is the transition from silence to music and back again to silence. Erdoorheen represents the will to explore and the curiosity to know what lies behind the barrier. Curiosity killed the cat—it is said—yet the piece develops from menacing, acidic, lacerating flute-like sounds to a hopeful, perhaps even triumphant mood where those same sounds acquire almost harmonic, tonal properties. The piece has a symphonic feel and is dramatic in its expression.
